– even intermittent willpower is OK, staying on it for periods better than not on it at all, accelerates progress to key personal objectives, schedule each category on your phone, set reminders
When I first started in the business world, I was extremely introverted when in the presence of adults. I was hired into my role because the hiring manager was confident that I would make a solid inside salesperson, but he never envisioned me going beyond the desk I was very respectful, but felt that I lacked the experience to make educated decisions in the business world. In meetings, I would never speak my mind thinking others would scoff at me and would instead nod along as others presented ideas, whether I agreed with them or not. I made an excellent soldier but lacked the charisma, presence, and confidence needed to be successful in front of our customer base. Instead, I focused my energy on learning more about the business and working to earn the trust of our customers over the phone.
Our customer base seemed to genuinely like me. They knew that when I was answering the call, I would consistently bring a number of things to the table. First off, I would always answer the phone with an enthusiastic, positive attitude. These people were calling with a need, and as I learned more and more about the business, I began to gain confidence that I would be able to respond to that need. If they had a problem that needed to be addressed, I was empathetic. I would always try to put myself in the customer’s shoes. I would let them know that I understood that they were frustrated and would do whatever I could to resolve their issue. If I was able to support the customer while they were still on the line, I would do so. If not, I would give them a definitive time that I would need to develop a solution and then work to beat that estimation. If I was unable to get an answer before the hourglass expired, I would call them back BEFORE the deadline, explain what I had developed so far and why I had not been able to secure an answer, and would recommit to a new timeline. Service in this country has hit an absolute low point. People have grown used to calling up a company seeking support, getting launched into an automated system that is virtually impossible to navigate through. When calling these systems, I invariably find myself pounding the zero button and screaming AGENT!!!! So when providing customers with proactive service, they are often taken aback. This is a tremendous opportunity to differentiate yourself from the competition.
gain confidence in myself.
